Storm split the pair against Wartburg, improve to 28-4 on the season.

INDIANOLA, Iowa - After a slow start from the Storm, the bats came alive to rally Simpson to an 11-3 doubleheader split against Wartburg on Saturday afternoon.

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS

  • Simpson struck first, scoring a run after a leadoff triple by Ashlyn Steen, who was brought home by Alexis Ehlers on a sac fly later in the frame.
  • Wartburg rallied back in the second inning with a three run blast to left center to put the Knights on top 3-1.
  • Both offenses were held in check until the sixth when Simpson cut the lead in half on an RBI fielder's choice, but were unable to capitalize more, leaving the bases loaded.
  • The Knights broke open the game in the seventh inning, scoring five runs to secure the 8-2 result.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS

  • Simpson once again quickly put the pressure on the Knights, scoring two in the first on a sac fly from Mackenzie James and an RBI single from Katie Shaner.
  • The Storm doubled their lead in the second with an RBI single from Megan Heidelbauer, and capitalized on an error by Wartburg to make it 4-0.
  • Wartburg added two of its three runs in the game in the fourth inning to cut the lead in half at 4-2.
  • RBI hits from Heidelbauer and Alexis Ehlers in the fourth added two more before Ashlyn Steen singled up the middle in the fifth to score another as Simpson expanded the lead to 7-2.
  • Wartburg notched the final run for the Knights in the sixth before the Storm clinched the game with four runs in the bottom of the sixth.
  • Ehlers started the inning off with a solo shot to left center then Shaner drove in one on her RBI double down the line. A fielding error and late throw resulted in the final runs for the Storm as Simpson wrapped up the split with an 11-3 result.
