Men in third after day one
STORM LAKE, Iowa - Sophomore Kinsey Bak won the pentathlon with an NCAA provisional qualifying score of 3,315 points to lead the Simpson women on day one at the Iowa Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships at Buena Vista University's Lamberti Recreation Center. Both the men's and women's team sit in third place after the first day.
Senior Jess Christensen placed second in the 5,000-meter run with a season-best time of 18 minutes, 14.46 seconds, Lauren Bucklin qualified for the finals in the 55-meter hurdles with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 8.36 and Stacey Bonertz placed fifth in the shot put (39-3) to lead the women's team. Bak also took fourth in the long jump 16-11 1/4.
On the men's side, John Wardenburg placed second in the shot put with a season-best toss of 50-6 1/4 and Scott Danielson placed third (47-11 1/4). Jarrod Schott placed third in the long jump with a season-best leap of 22-0 3/4, and Marty Rounds qualified for the finals in the 55-meter hurdles, placing fourth (7.84).
The championship concludes tomorrow with a 9 a.m. start.
