Men's tennis drops a pair in Cedar Rapids

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Simpson men's tennis team dropped a pair of matches Saturday, losing to Cornell 6-3 and No. 33 Coe 9-0.

Zach Nelson and Aaron Smith collected singles wins against Cornell for the Storm (2-3, 0-1 Iowa Conference), who were without their usual No. 2, Pierce Carey. The doubles team of Geoff Converse and Adam Wieser earned Simpson's other win.

Nelson took down Alex Rand 6-3, 6-1 at the No. 5 spot and Smith beat Auston Sack 8-4 at No. 6. Converse and Wieser cruised in No. 2 doubles, beating Sack and Corey Duncan 8-1.

Simpson couldn't manage a win agaisnt perennial power Coe, who came in ranked No. 8 in the region.

Up next: Simpson travels to Owatonna, Minn. to face Ripon and Bethany Lutheran next Saturday, Feb. 21. The Storm close the weekend against Martin Luther on Sunday.
