Two freestyle relays achieve all-conference honors
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Simpson College men's swimming and diving team had two relay squads achieve All-American Rivers Conference honors this weekend with third place finishes at the A-R-C Championships.
The 200 freestyle relay team of Parker Ehrreich, Tristan Blair, Jared Oosterhuis, and Jay Ceperley earned the team's first all-conference medal with a third place finish in the event on Thursday. The men swam a season-best time of 1:29.55, missing the school record by just .01 seconds. The quartet swam a trial time in the event the following day and shaved off just enough time to break the program mark with a 1:29.20.
In the 800 freestyle relay, Ehrreich, Carter Pichler, Blair and Ceperley teamed up to earn a second all-conference award for the men's team. They clocked a 7:35.72 to finish behind Luther and Nebraska Wesleyan.
As a team, the Storm took home fourth place with 187 points.
INDIVIDUAL HIGHLIGHTS
- Freshman Parker Ehrreich took home a fifth place finish in the 50 freestyle followed by a 10th place finish in the 100 freestyle. Ehrreich also qualified in the 100 yard backstroke where he placed ninth.
- Jay Ceperley qualified for the 50 freestyle, taking 12th place in the finals. Ceperley had an equally impressive performance in the 100 freestyle where he also took 12th. Additionally, Ceperley took eighth in the 100 butterfly alongside his teammate Jared Oosterhuis, who claimed 12th.
- In the 200 freestyle, Tristan Blair qualified for the finals where he brought home an impressive sixth place finish for the Storm. He followed it up with a seventh place finish in the 500 freestyle.
- Tyce Dolphin and Carter Pichler both qualified for the finals in the 100 backstroke, taking 11th and 12th place respectively. In the 200 yard backstroke, Dolphin and Pichler qualified alongside Corbin Thoms to take three more top-finishes.
