Five men’s soccer players land on All-A-R-C Team
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- The American Rivers Conference released the 2021 Men's Soccer All-Conference Team on Thursday, and five student-athletes from the Simpson College men's soccer team were named among the best in the conference.
Ian Dean, Enrique Idehen, Alan Imamovic and Jordy Triana-Vasquez were named to the first team and Roderick Orellana-Lemus landed on the honorable mention squad.
Simpson closed the 2021 campaign in the A-R-C semifinals after the Storm earned their highest tournament seeding since 2001 thanks to a 5-2-1 mark in league action. Fueled by a big road win over Loras and three-straight shutouts at the end of the conference schedule, the Storm finished the season in the No. 2 spot in league standings - two spots ahead of where they were predicted to finish in the preseason poll.
Dean, a senior from Johnston, Iowa, captured the first all-conference honor of his career after playing in all 16 games and logging 1282 minutes on the pitch. He was a leader of Simpson's back line all season long and helped the Storm keep opponents off the board on three occasions. Dean also assisted on a goal against Wisconsin Platteville and placed five of his eight shots on frame throughout the season.
Idehen, a senior from Urbandale, Iowa, earned a spot on the first team after landing on the honorable mention squad in both 2019 and 2020. He was the Storm's second-highest scorer with five goals and ranked 10th in the league with 20 shots on goal and t-11th with 30 total shots. Idehen had the game-winning goal against Nebraska Wesleyan and tallied two assists throughout the season.
Imamovic, a junior from Urbandale, Iowa, was a dominant force on defense all season and earned his first all-conference recognition. He led the team with 1471 minutes played and played a pivotal role in the Storm picking up three shutouts and ranking fifth in the league with a 1.56 goals against average. Imamovic was selected as the A-R-C Defensive Player of the Week on Nov. 1 after providing the assist on Simpson's game-winner against Nebraska Wesleyan and playing all but the final two minutes to help the Storm secure the two-seed in the postseason.
Triana-Vasquez, a junior from Clive, Iowa, received his second-straight all-conference nod after leading the Storm and ranking fifth in the conference with 10 goals scored. He opened the year with the A-R-C's lone four-score performance of the season and continued to be a consistent attacker all season, ranking second in the league in shots (52) and tied for second in shots on goal (32). Along with his 10 goals, Triana-Vasquez added three assists to give him the sixth-most points in the league.
Orellana-Lemus, a junior from Des Moines, Iowa, was named all-conference honorable mention after his performance in his second season with the Storm. From his midfield position, he started 14 of 15 matches and was one of six to amass more than 1000 minutes over the course of the season. Orellana-Lemus picked up his first career assist in the Storm's season opener against Augustana and ranked fourth on the team with 24 shots and fifth with eight shots on goal.
