Both Storm swimming and diving teams selected fourth in preseason polls
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Both Simpson College swimming and diving teams were selected fourth in their respective American Rivers Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll.
"I am extremely excited about the returners and the first-year student-athletes we have coming in," said head coach Adam Cvetich. "We've put in the work and created a successful atmosphere and culture that has allowed our team to grow. On the women's side, we have an outstanding core group of freestylers and butterfliers returning with an incoming group that can showcase other areas of versatility. The men have a smaller roster, but last season they nabbed their first school record in the past five years and were able to record their first dual meet win in the last ten years. There is a general excitement around this season and this team is poised to start taking down individual records."
LOOKING BACK AT LAST SEASON
- Kate Minette had one of the most successful seasons in program history, winning the conference title in the 50- and 100-yard freestyles, before taking runner-up honors in the 200-yard version.
- The Liberty, Mo. native also broke a 19-year-old school record in the 50-yard freestyle, lowered her own school record in the 100-yard freestyle, and was named conference performer of the week twice.
- The quartet of Minette, Breana Hinson, Emma Haynes and Katie Oosterhuis broke the school record in the 200-yard freestyle relay, clocking a 1:42.93.
- The men also had a relay team set a new program record as Adrian Mulgrew-Truitt, Gabe Bruns, Christopher Olds and Jay Ceperley swam the 800-yard freestyle relay in 7:47.53 at the conference championships.
- Ceperley also took home his first career conference performer of the week award and led the Storm in all seven individual events he swam in, ranking in the top 10 in school history in multiple events.
- Olds, a versatile swimmer able to swim in middle and long-distance races also entered the top 10 in school history in two events, both at the conference championships.
