INDIANOLA, Iowa – The Simpson women's soccer team hung jab-for-jab with Grand View on Wednesday, but a Kaylee Grote goal in double-overtime gave the Vikings just enough to push past Simpson 2-1.
Syd Gutschenritter gave the Vikings (5-4-1) the initial lead in the 51st minute, although the lead wouldn't last for long as Mackenzie Stump knotted up the game 1-1 with an unassisted score in the 53rd minute. It was the Storm's only shot on goal, but they made it count.
The 1-1 gridlock held fast until Grote sent the deciding goal into the back of the net on a one-timer set up by Logan Johnson in the 105th minute.
Simpson (2-7-0) was outshot 19-4 but freshman goalkeeper Zoe Seiler made six saves to help Simpson weather Grand View's aggressive attack.
Despite the loss it was the sign of a step in the right direction for Simpson who had been held scoreless in its last five matches against Grand View, including an 8-0 loss last season.

The Storm will look to finish on the winning side of things as they host IIAC foe Dubuque at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 3.
