Dillenburg, Bird and Winegard earn soccer all-conference honors

INDIANOLA - Simpson women's soccer players Nicole Dillenburg, Katherine Bird and Chelsea Winegardearned All-Iowa Conference honors, as announced Thursday.

Dillenburg, a junior midfielder from Urbandale, earned first team all-conference honors for the third time in her career. She tied for the team-lead with 10 goals, a career high after netting eight in each of her first two seasons. Dillenburg attempted 80 shots on the season (second most in the league) and turned in her fifth-career multi-goal game with two against Buena Vista on Oct. 6.

Bird, a junior forward from Iowa City, landed a second team all-conference nod, her first career appearance on a postseason team. Bird had a breakout season in 2010, scoring a  team-high 25 points on 10 goals and five assists. Her biggest output came against Minnesota-Morris when she netted two goals in a 5-0 Storm win. Fourteen of her points came against conference competition, with five goals and four assists.

Winegard, a sophomore from Muscatine, received honorable mention all-conference honors. She appeared in and started all 18 games for the Storm as a defender, solidifying the team's back row. Winegard recorded one assist on the season.

Simpson went 7-11-1 on the season, finishing sixth in the Iowa Conference with a 3-5 record. Kate Young of conference-champion Loras earned league MVP honors, while Duhawk head coach Dan Rothert was named coach of the year.
