DUBUQUE, Iowa -- Cassie Chubb scored a career-high 27 points and the Simpson women's basketball team used a big second quarter to beat Alverno 97-70 in the Loras Christmas Classic on Saturday.
Madie Bacon scored 13 points and Rachel Freland and Jenna Taylor had 12 apiece for the Storm (10-2), who won their third in a row. Simpson outscored Alverno 31-12 in the second quarter.
Simpson pulled away with an 18-2 run to start the second quarter. Chubb hit a jumper to get things started, Janey Botkins and Rachel Freland hit 3s and Cameron Kincaid's layup made it 37-18 with 4:31 left.
Chubb went 11-for-13 from the field and 5-for-6 from 3-point range for the Storm.
Mackenzie Mathies scored 24 points for the Inferno (3-7).
GAME NOTES
Simpson closed the non-conference season 8-1 … Simpson is in the midst of its third, three-game winning streak of the season.
