Storm wrap up season in Missouri

FULTON, Mo. – The Storm traveled to Missouri on Friday night to compete in a double-heading, closing out their 2025 season. Simpson faced off against Westminster and Greenville, losing to both teams. Westminster defeated the Storm 3-1, while Greenville defeated the Storm in straight sets.

The two games were led by Adriano Roma, where he had 31 kills between the two matches, leading the Storm in that category. Hector Lopez Navarro put up an astounding 56 assists between the two matches, recording a whopping 35 assists in the match against Westminster. Daniel Garcia Contreras had 14 digs to lead the Storm in their first game, while Sebastian Rivera had 11 digs to lead the Storm in their second game.

Friday's matches wrap up the season for the Storm. The team finishes 1-11 on the season, defeating Maranatha Baptist. Simpson will graduate three seniors this spring, Anthony Potratz, Cody Durbin, and Max Robinson.

HOW IT HAPPENED (AGAINST WESTMINSTER)

  • The Storm scored their first point of set one on a kill by Cody Durbin. Westminster went on an early run to go up 9-4 against Simpson, but the Storm answered with a 3-0 run of their own marked by a kill from Anthony Potratz. After some back and forth, Westminster went on another late run, and Simpson fell 25-19.
  • The Storm scored the first point of set two, and tied it up at 6-6 later in the match, staying close with Westminster early on. Simpson remained within a point or tied with Westminster throughout the entire set up until 19-19 where the Storm exploded to take the 24-20 lead. Simpson won set two 25-21 on a kill by Ignacio Aguado Herranz.
  • Simpson opened set three on a 5-0 run with two back-to-back aces from Adriano Roma. Westminster responded with a 4-0 run of their own, bringing the score to a tie. In the middle of the set, a series of errors by Westminster brought the Storm another 5-0 run. A late 7-0 run by Westminster took the lead and the Storm fell 25-23.
  • Set four opened with a 1-1 start, followed by a few more ties before the Storm fell to a 7-0 run to go down 10-3. The Storm fought back and forth through the match, coming as close as a four point deficit, but eventually they fell 25-18 to Westminster.

HOW IT HAPPENED (AGAINST GREENVILLE)

  • The first set opened on two points for the Storm with kills by Adriano Roma and Anthony Potratz. Greenville responded with a 5-0 run to overtake the Storm. A series of smaller runs put the Storm down 11-16, but a late 4-0 run by Simpson put the score within two. After some back and forth late in the set, the Storm fell 25-20.
  • Set two started with a series of ties, but at 5-3, Greenville went on a 5-0 run to take the 8-5 lead. A kill by Daniel Garcia Contreras paused the momentum. The Storm took control of a 3-0 run in the mid-set with a kill by Adriano Roma, bringing the score within one. The Storm tied it up at 22-22 when Ignacio Aguado Herranz got an ace. The Storm fell 25-22 in set two.
  • The first point of set three went to the Storm on an error from Greenville. Early in set three, Simpson went up 8-5. After some fight back from Greenville, the score ended up at a 10-10 tie before the Storm took the lead again at 13-12 on a kill from Adriano Roma. At 15-15, Greenville went on a 3-0 run, followed by another 4-0 run to put the Storm down 22-17. The Storm fell in set three 25-21.
