Hook, Kusick earn conference tennis honors

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Simpson tennis players Alex Hook and Zach Kusick earned honorable mention honors on the 2014 All-Iowa Conference Men's Tennis Team following a vote of the league's coaches, the conference office announced last week.

A senior from West Des Moines, Iowa, Hook took home honorable mention honors for the second year in a row. He posted a 6-7 record in singles on the year, going 5-6 at No. 2 and 1-1 at No. 3. He went a combined 8-6 in doubles, going 4-3 at No. 2 with Dylan Hogan and 4-3 at No. 3 with Mike Rundle.

Hook closes his career ranked in the top-10 on Simpson's career singles and doubles lists. His 28 singles wins are No. 10 in school history and his 32 doubles wins are No. 5.

A sophomore from Broomfield, Colo., Kusick posted a 10-10 singles record in 2014, including a 10-8 mark at No. 1. He went 11-13 in doubles, going 9-11 at No. 1. He earned Iowa Conference Player of the Week honors twice.

The Storm went 7-13 under third-year head coach TJ Cox in 2013-14, tallying the most wins in a season since 2009. Simpson went 2-5 in the Iowa Conference, qualifying for the conference tournament for the first time since 2007. There, Simpson knocked off Buena Vista in the fifth-place match to close the season.
