Alderson named IIAC Offensive Player of the Week for third time
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — Simpson men's soccer player Tanner Alderson earned Iowa Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors for the period ending Sunday, Oct. 8, as announced by the league office Monday.
A sophomore forward from Parkville, Mo., Alderson took home the honor for the third time this season after scoring three goals in helping the Storm go 3-0 on the week with wins over Nebraska Wesleyan (2-1) on Wednesday, Buena Vista (2-0) on Saturday and Concordia-Moorhead (3-1) on Sunday. He scored game-winners against conference foes Nebraska Wesleyan and Buena Vista.
Alderson headed in the game-winner against the Prairie Wolves with 47 seconds left in the game, breaking a 1-1 tie. He scored the first goal of the game in the shutout win over the Beavers and needed just 47 seconds to give the Storm a 1-0 lead in the non-conference win over the Cobbers on Sunday.
Alderson leads the Iowa Conference and ranks seventh in Division III with 14 goals on the season. His six game-winners are good for third in the country.
Simpson is 13-0-1 on the season, one of just nine schools in Division III without a loss. Storm players have accounted for seven of 12 Iowa Conference Player of the Week honors in 2017.
