Barragan named IIAC Player of the Week
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Simpson men's basketball player Zack Barragan earned Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) Player of the Week honors for the period ending Nov. 20 after averaging 17 points in three games last week.
Barragan, a senior shooting guard from Ankeny, Iowa, led the team in scoring during a 1-2 start, which included losses to a pair of NCAA Division II programs.
He scored 18 points in Simpson's 94-68, season-opening win at AIB College of Business on November 15, going 5-for-9 from 3-point range. The win marked Simpson's first season-opening victory since 2006.
The Storm then traveled to the Winona State Tournament, where they faced Division II programs in Winona State and Upper Iowa. Barragan scored 12 points in an 89-57 loss at Winona State on November 18. The following night, he scored 21 points and tied a school record by going a perfect 11-for-11 from the charity stripe in a 78-71 loss to Upper Iowa.
Simpson hits the road over Thanksgiving weekend, traveling to Graceland for a 4 p.m. tipoff on Saturday, Nov. 26.
