O’Brien joins staff as offensive line coach

INDIANOLA, Iowa – Head coach Reed Hoskins has announced the addition of Dean O'Brien to the Simpson College football coaching staff as offensive line coach.

O'Brien arrives in Indianola after spending the 2025 season at Winona State University, where he coached the tight ends and fullbacks while serving as assistant film coordinator. He helped the Warriors to their first winning season since 2022, assisting with offensive game planning, opponent scouting, player development and recruiting.

Prior to his time at Winona State, O'Brien served as assistant defensive line coach, equipment manager and film coordinator at Saginaw Valley State University. He helped develop a defensive front that produced four all-conference selections, including the conference's Defensive Lineman of the Year, while contributing to a unit that led the conference in rushing defense, sacks and third-down defense.

O'Brien began his coaching career at Northwest Missouri State University, where he spent five seasons as a student assistant working primarily with the offensive line. During his tenure, the Bearcats captured two conference championships.

O'Brien earned a bachelor's degree in business management with a minor in sports management from Northwest Missouri State.
