Loras outlasts Storm in extra time

DUBUQUE - Miguel Bonilla's goal in the second overtime period helped Loras escape with a 1-0 win against Simpson on Saturday afternoon.

Bonilla and the Duhawks (11-6, 6-1 IIAC) outshot Simpson 31-5 on the game and stayed in the race atop the Iowa Conference standings. Dubuque and Wartburg are also 6-1.

Luke Aronow made six saves between the posts for the Storm (5-11, 2-5 IIAC). Simpson was minutes away from breaking a 10-game winless streak against the four-time defending league champions.

The final conference game of the season will determine Simpson's conference tournament hopes. The Storm and Coe are currently tied for sixth in the IIAC, with Coe holding the tie-breaker due to a win in the head-to-head matchup. Simpson closes the season against Wartburg in Indianola at 8 p.m. on Saturday, while Coe travels to Cornell.
