Before Simpson
- Spent seven seasons as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Illinois Wesleyan... helped guide the Titans to a 41-22 record during that time as well as a pair of CCIW titles in 2017 and 2018... Titan offense produced 20 All-CCIW selections including five during the 2018 season which saw Illinois Wesleyan rank top-10 nationally in eight statistical categories... Titans went 6-4 in his final season with the program, a three-win improvement from the previous year and the fifth six-win campaign in seven years
- Served as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Wisconsin-La Crosse from 2011-15... coached 18 all-conference performers while also serving as the academic coordinator for the Eagles, who maintained a team grade point average above 3.0 for 10 consecutive semesters
- Was the passing game coordinator, quarterbacks and wide receivers coach at his alma mater and fellow American Rivers Conference foe Wartburg... helped guide the Knights to league championships in both his first and last seasons in Waverly
- Spent a season coaching at St. Cloud State (2007-08) and North Carolina Wesleyan (2006-07)

- Was the starting quarterback at Wartburg for three seasons, earning second team all-conference recognition as a sophomore
