Cary breaks own record on day three of Liberal Arts

DECORAH, Iowa — Kayla Cary resets Simpson's third record of the week and three individuals and the relay team placed in the top-10 highlighting the third day of the Liberal Arts Championships on Friday, Feb. 16.

Simpson is in ninth-place with 118 points through 27 events, 3.5 points ahead of Nebraska Wesleyan. The competition concludes tomorrow with the 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly, 400 freestyle relay, 1650 freestyle and women's 1-meter diving. Prelims begin at 10 a.m. with finals getting underway at 6 p.m.

Highlights
• Cary capped her own record in the 100 butterfly set last year (1:04.75) with a time of 1:02.16 finishing 10th.
• Along with Cary, two other individuals and the 200 medley relay team finished in the top-10. In the 200 freestyle, Sarah Prendergast finished eighth (2:05.25) and Brenna Yeutsy finished 10th (2:02.62). The team of Megan Buitendorp, Mikala Williams-Yee, Cary and Prendergast finished seventh touching the wall at 1:58.19.
Freshmen Madison DePover and Camryn Leeser recorded career bests in the 200 freestyle (2:17.92) and the 100 breaststroke (1:19.21), respectively.
