INDIANOLA, Iowa – The Simpson women's swimming team placed first in the 200-yard freestyle relay as it went 1-1 in the season-opener against Coe College and Tabor College at the Indianola YMCA on Friday evening.

The quartet of Megan Buitendorp, Erica Carlson, Katherine Rubins and Emma Gerdis finished the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:51.65 to take first in the event. Carlson swam her leg in 26.82, the fastest time in the group and the entire relay.
"Comparing with where we are at the same time last year, I'm very happy with where we are at," head coach Tom Caccia said. "I'm very happy to open with a split."
Simpson (1-1, 0-1 IIAC) came in second in six different events, with Tori Haag coming up just 0.31 seconds behind Tabor's Aleya Hill for second place in the 100-yard freestyle.

Coe's Ayaka Okamota placed first in the 100-yard backstroke, 50-yuard freestyle and in the 200-yard medley relay to help the Kohawks (3-1, 1-1 IIAC) to a 2-0 sweep.
Tabor fell to 0-3 on the season although Aleya Hill swam the fastest time in the 100 and 200-yard freestyle to lead the Bluejays.
Naomi Olsgaard was the lone women diver at the event, finishing with a score of 129.45 in the one-meter dive.
Simpson will stay at the Indianola YMCA for its next meet, coming on Friday, Nov. 20 at 6 p.m. against Iowa Conference rival Loras.
"I think we want to move some things around and shuffle people [next week]," Caccia said. "But we got some information this week that is going to help us next week."
