INDIANOLA, Iowa — Maggie Anderson scored the game's only goal in the final minutes as the Simpson women's soccer team fell to Luther 1-0 on a wet, cold Tuesday evening at Buxton Stadium.
The game was delayed for 1 hour, 13 minutes early in the second half due to lightning in the area.
Anderson converted on an open-net goal in the 86th minute for the Norse (6-6, 3-1 Iowa Conference). Meredith Arpey sent a cross into the box that was deflected, allowing Anderson to take advantage of a fortuitous bounce to score the game-winner.
The Storm (4-10, 1-4) managed just three shots against the stingy Luther defense. Goalkeeper Zoe Seiler made nine saves to keep the Storm in the game until the final minutes.
Simpson travels to Dubuque to face Loras on Saturday, Oct. 14. The 18th-ranked Duhawks (10-1-1, 4-0) beat Luther 2-0 on Sunday, increasing their winning streak to seven games. Start time is set for 1 p.m. from the Rock Bowl.
