WAVERLY, Iowa -- Dylan McChesney grabbed an opening win at 125 pounds, but the Simpson wrestling team could not keep the momentum going and lost 47-3 at No. 3 Wartburg on Wednesday night.
McChesney began the night with an 8-3 decision in the American Rivers Conference opener as the Storm (0-3, 0-1 A-R-C) looked to upset the Knights (2-0, 2-0 A-R-C). McChesney is now 3-0 in dual meets to start his sophomore campaign.
At 141 pounds, Sam McCoy had an early 4-1 lead in hopes of getting Simpson back on track, but Nick Meling would then regain the advantage and held on to defeat McCoy, 14-4. McCoy moves to 1-2 in duals in his first season on the mat for the Storm.
Simpson competed against three Wartburg wrestlers ranked in the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) rankings this week as two of three Knights picked up pins.
The Storm travel to Cedar Rapids, Iowa this Saturday for the Coe Turkey Invitational. Competition begins at 9 a.m.
