CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Simpson women's basketball player Morgan Terpstra earned Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) Athlete of the Week honors for the week ending Sunday, Jan. 26.
A senior forward from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Terpstra averaged 16 points and 8.5 rebounds as Simpson went 2-0 last week to move into sole possession of second place in the conference. She scored 14 points and pulled down eight rebounds in a 58-35 win over Central on Wednesday, then went for 18 and nine in a 74-64 win against Wartburg on Saturday.
A two-sport athlete, Terpstra – who was a four-year letterwinner for the volleyball team – is experiencing a breakout year. Through 17 games, she is averaging 9.6 points and 5.8 rebounds. In her first three seasons, she averaged 2.9 points and 3.1 rebounds.
Terpstra and the Storm (10-7, 5-1 Iowa Conference) have won five games in a row and are a game back of league-leading Loras (11-6, 6-0). Simpson looks to keep its hopes of a conference championship alive when it travels to face third place Dubuque on Wednesday, Jan. 29.
