INDIANOLA, Iowa -- Head coach Brent Matthias has released the 2020 Simpson softball schedule, which is highlighted by five home doubleheaders and a seven-day Florida trip during spring break.
The Storm kick off the season at Illinois College on March 14 and then travel to Fontbonne the following day to get some additional time under their belt before the trip southeast. The gauntlet continues the next day as Simpson begins its spree of 14 games in seven days in the Sunshine State.
While in Florida, the Storm will play four doubleheaders and have two days with three contests to begin the campaign with 18 games in nine days. Simpson takes on Ripon and Salem State on March 16, Rutgers-Camden and Lasell on the 17th, and Augsburg, Keuka and Minnesota-Morris on the 18th before a break in the action. On the 20th, Simpson plays Plattsburgh, Farmingdale State and Knox, before taking on Utica and Wisconsin-River Falls on the 21st. The Storm close out the trip against Middlebury and Buffalo State on March 22.
Simpson opens its home portion of the 2020 slate with a doubleheader against MacMurray on March 29 before traveling to Iowa Wesleyan on March 31.
American Rivers Conference competition begins on April 4 with a trip to Waverly, Iowa to take on Wartburg. The A-R-C home opener is the following Wednesday on April 8 with a two-game set with Buena Vista. Simpson travels to Grinnell on April 9 to interrupt A-R-C play.
The Storm return to A-R-C action with road games against Coe on April 10 and Central on the 14th, as both squads finished the 2019 regular season ranked in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Top-25 Poll. Luther visits on April 16, then the Storm travel to Loras on the 18th.
Simpson ends the regular season with back-to-back home doubleheaders against Dubuque on the 22nd and Nebraska Wesleyan on the 25th.
Postseason play starts up in May as the A-R-C Tournament runs through May 1-2, with the top seed hosting the event.
