CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- Simpson softball player Emily Bell earned Iowa Conference Pitcher of the Week honors for the period ending Sunday, March 4, the league office announced Monday.
Bell tossed a no-hitter in her collegiate debut, a 19-0, five-inning win over Houghton on Saturday, March 3 in Clermont, Fla. She followed that with a six-inning, 10-strikeout effort in the Storm's 4-0 win over Pitt.-Greensburg on Sunday.
The freshman from Aurora, Colo. went 2-0 with 19 strikeouts and just three walks in 11 innings of work, helping the Storm start the season 4-0. She was part of a Simpson pitching staff that didn't allow a run through four games while outscoring opponents 50-0.
Bell is Simpson's first IIAC Pitcher of the Week since Abbie Van Vleet on April 18, 2016.
