INDIANOLA, Iowa – Riley Fisher earned Iowa Conference Pitcher of the Week honors for the period ending Sunday, March 1, after getting wins in her first three appearances in a Simpson uniform.
A junior transfer, Fisher went 3-0 with a 1.65 ERA in the circle as the Storm swept the competition at the Finlandia Dome Tournament on Feb. 28-March 1, going 6-0. Simpson outscored its opponents 50-6 and the pitching staff posted a 1.14 ERA.
Fisher led Simpson's hurlers, tossing two complete games and striking out 11 in 17 innings of work. She started the season by striking out seven in a 9-1, five-inning complete game win over Edgewood on Feb. 28. Later in the day she handcuffed Concordia (Wis.), allowing four hits and two runs in a 12-2, five-inning win. On March 1, the final day of the tournament, Fisher allowed just one hit over the final six innings of a 3-1 win over Wis.-Oshkosh after giving up a home run to the first batter she faced.
Fisher and the Storm broke in at No. 25 in the NFCA Division III Top 25 Poll, released March 4.
Simpson makes its annual trip to the Rebel Spring Games in Winter Haven, Fla. Beginning Friday, March 6. There, the Storm will play 14 games over a seven-day span.
