DECORAH, Iowa — The Simpson men's tennis team earned a split over the weekend, falling to Luther 9-0 in the Iowa Conference opener before beating Wisconsin Lutheran 8-1 on Saturday.

The Storm (3-4, 0-1 IIAC) had little trouble against an undermanned Wisconsin Lutheran squad, which was forced to forfeit two singles matches and No. 3 doubles.

Zach Nelson, Geoff Converse and Brett Dewerff all won contested singles matches in straight sets while Aaron Smith and Karson Richardson picked up wins by default.

The doubles team of Converse and Adam Wieser topped Derek Sallmann and Jon Wordell 8-5 at No. 1 doubles while Nelson and Smith cruised to an 8-3 decision over Matt Plaski and Jake Stellick at No. 2.

Simpson couldn't manage a win against a tough Luther squad to start the day.
