DECORAH, Iowa — The Simpson men's tennis team earned a split over the weekend, falling to Luther 9-0 in the Iowa Conference opener before beating Wisconsin Lutheran 8-1 on Saturday.
The Storm (3-4, 0-1 IIAC) had little trouble against an undermanned Wisconsin Lutheran squad, which was forced to forfeit two singles matches and No. 3 doubles.
The doubles team of Converse and Adam Wieser topped Derek Sallmann and Jon Wordell 8-5 at No. 1 doubles while Nelson and Smith cruised to an 8-3 decision over Matt Plaski and Jake Stellick at No. 2.
Simpson couldn't manage a win against a tough Luther squad to start the day.
The Storm travel to White Bear Lake, Minn. next Saturday, Feb. 18 to face Minnesota-Morris and Northwestern (Minn.) in a double-dip.
