The Simpson men's tennis team won 2 of 3 matches on a weekend trip to Wisconsin and Illinois, splitting with St. Norbert and Lakeland on Saturday before closing the weekend with a win over Aurora.
Simpson split play Saturday in Janesville, Wis., losing to St. Norbert 5-4 before coming back with a resounding 9-0 win over Lakeland. Simpson made the trip to Rockford, Ill. on Sunday morning for a 9-0 shutout of Aurora.
The Storm (7-4) lost 2 of 3 doubles matches against St. Norbert before earning a split in singles. Kusick won 4-6, 6-1, 10-3 at No. 1, Carey won 7-6 (7-3), 6-2 at No. 2 and Rietgraf won 6-4, 6-1 at No. 3. Kusick and Rietgraf won a close 9-8 (7-4) decision at No. 1 doubles.
Simpson rolled against short-handed squads form Lakeland and Aurora and has now won 5 of 6.
Up next: Simpson is off until Saturday, March 19 when the Storm go to Galesburg, Ill. to face Webster and Wis.-Lutheran. Simpson travels back to Rockford on Sunday, March 20 to face Marian (Wis.).
