Dau named to Academic All-District First Team
INDIANOLA, Iowa – Senior guard Andrew Dau of the Simpson College men's basketball team earned a spot on the 2010 ESPN The Magazine Men's Basketball College Division Academic All-District VII First Team, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Tuesday.
A 6-4 senior guard from Primghar, Iowa, Dau becomes the first men's basketball player at Simpson to receive the honor since 2003. Dau owns a 3.97 cumulative GPA while double-majoring in computer science and mathematics.
Chris Handke of Cornell, Alex Henderson of Truman State, Aaron Hill of Rockhurst and Cameron Smith of Washington University in St. Louis joined Dau on the first team.
Dau's senior season has been the most productive for the 2006 graduate of South O'Brien High School. He currently ranks second on the team in scoring (12.8 ppg) and rebounding (5.5 rpg) after entering the season with a career scoring average of less than five points per game. He has reached double-figures in 16 of 21 games this season and scored a career-high 21 points on two occasions, the most recent coming against Loras Jan. 9.
In three-plus seasons with the Storm, Dau has appeared in 94 games, starting 63. He ranks seventh in program history with 63 made 3-point field goals.
Student-athletes nominated for an ESPN The Magazine All-District Team must own a cumulative grade-point average of 3.3 or better. As a first team selection, Dau is now a candidate for the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Team. Those selections will be announced Feb. 23.
Simpson currently owns a record of 4-17 overall and 1-11 in Iowa Conference play. The Storm host Wartburg at Cowles Fieldhouse at 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6.
