CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — Simpson football player Ryan Lehr earned Iowa Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors for the period ending Sunday, Oct. 8, the league office announced Monday.
A sophomore safety from Indianola, Iowa, Lehr returned an interception 98 yards for a touchdown to seal the Storm's 31-21 win at Loras on Saturday, Oct. 7. Lehr finished the game with eight tackles and one pass breakup.
The interception is the fourth of the season for Lehr and the return is tied for the fourth-longest in Division III this season. It marks the second-longest interception return in school history to Joe Beschorner's 99-yard return against Augsburg on Nov. 29, 1997.
The weekly defensive award is the first of Lehr's career and the second by a Simpson player this season. Trey Chumbley took home the award on Sept. 10.
